Nutritional therapy for protein-energy malnutrition in children with sepsis

This review presents meta-analyses on nutrition in patients with critical illness using ASPEN/SCCM (2017), SSC (2012, 2021), ESPNIC (2020), and (2020) pediatric sepsis guidelines. The guideline, based new evidence, complements most of the existing ASPEN (2017) guidelines for pediatrics. Childrens did not find direct evidence sufficient data to develop strong nutritional recommendations children sepsis/SS. Many issues remain unresolved, requiring systematic analysis. In literature search, only a few randomized clinical trials have focused assessment correction protein-energy malnutrition intensive care. Over past decade, small large studies recommended therapy. However, given heterogeneity admitted care units terms age, pathology, disease severity, presence comorbidities, status, it is unrealistic expect that one strategy applies all Therefore, clinicians emphasize need an individualized approach support children, taking into account initial riskbenefit ratio different therapies.
